Meet Your Director

Sarah Malin Headshot.pngMy name is Sarah Malin and I am very excited to begin my time here at Knox Junior High!  Junior high is such an exciting time to be in choir – it is my joy to be the one who can guide them through their beginning years of learning to read music, learning healthy singing technique, and experiencing a more advanced level of music making.  Welcome to the program!

About Me:   As a student, I went to school in Conroe ISD, graduating from The Woodlands High School in 2009.  I then studied at the University of Houston, where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education and a mathematics minor.  I taught one year as a choir director at Watkins Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD before I had the wonderful opportunity to come back to my home district.  Previously, I have been a children’s music intern, a stage manager, an assistant director for an a cappella ensemble, and a member of the award-winning University of Houston Concert Chorale.

Currently, I am a member of the Houston Symphony Chorus, where I perform major works  along with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.  I’ve also sung in Star Wars: In Concert, participated in the Florilege Vocal de Tours choir competition in Tours, France, and got to be a back-up singer for Josh Groban!  I like cats, sci-fi, Harry Potter, and playing Minecraft.  I can’t wait to meet the students and parents of this wonderful program – I’m looking forward to the upcoming school year!

I truly expect this year to be fun, exciting, rewarding, and successful. Of course, a great deal of our success depends on you. The program will rely heavily on the support of our choir parents.  If you have any questions concerning concerts, events, or any other aspect of the choral program, feel free to e-mail at saryoung@conroeisd.net or call at 832-592-8287.
